The Day I Met Santa…

santa

The story of Santa Clause is one a lot of us grew up knowing and experiencing the Magic that was “Santa” from songs about good old Saint Nick to leaving out milk and cookies for him on Christmas Eve. I remember being young and thinking “how does he get around the world in one night?” Modern technology now helps us track Santa through his special journey Christmas Eve. But, as we get older, for some reason culture tells us that it is not cool or acceptable to believe in something magical or that we cannot understand with our logical minds. I am going to share with you a story that I have not shared with many people. But, I feel it is essential to fill the world back with some hope or magic this Holiday Season.

When I was 29, I had a profound experience on the Winter Solstice in 2012. That experience seemingly awakened my soul and put me on the path to my Spirituality. It awakened it from all the years of slumber from that part of myself. Ever since that day, I have seen the magic first hand that can be had at this time of year. Some call it a Christmas Miracle, some the Winter Solstice and others call it December 21st. Most of my life, I had experienced health issues, mostly various autoimmune challenges. As my soul was going through this new found awakening, some of those issues came to a cataclysmic moment. Three years later in 2015, I found myself laying in a hospital bed the week before Christmas. Although things weren’t as bad as they had been in the past, or in hindsight as bad as they were going to get, no one loves being in the hospital, especially right before the holidays.

See, you may be asking what exactly had happened to me on December 21, 2012. That was a day, if you remember, many people had speculated about since it was the last day of the Mayan Calendar. Many of us now know that day was a day that the energy changed in the world and it was like a veil had been lifted. Well that was the day when, for whatever reason, the light switch inside of me turned on and with it all of my Spiritual gifts. It was on that day that I realized that I had been suppressing my connection with Spirit. Throughout my life, I have always been able to sense things. But, I often ignored them or pretended they did not exist. I could be in a space and know that something else was there with me and get a sense of energy from it. I know that others can sense things also. But, many times we think it is bad or scary energy because we do not understand what it is. The unknown is often an unsettling experience. Usually, right before I would fall asleep, I would hear people talking to me or calling my name, and sometimes saying things I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear. I remember thinking, “why do they always want to talk to me right before I am about to go to sleep?” Well, that was because, at that time in my life, that was the only time my vibrations were high enough to be open to receiving the messages. I knew energy and spirits were around and there was this whole universal aspect of life. But, I was not sure I was ready to fully embrace that part of who I was. I continued to live my life that way for many years, and had done an excellent job suppressing them, or so I had thought. When that switch flipped everything became clear and yet so much to learn, and so many more questions. That day on the Winter Solstice was a day I stepped into my full relationship with Spirit, the Divine and awakened to my purpose.

So, in 2015, as I was laying in that hospital bed contemplating life, and trying my best to focus on the Christmas magic I could still harness even if I was not at a magical Winter Solstice event, it happened. That was when I saw Santa Clause walk through my hospital wall.

I may have just lost some of you for a moment, so let me repeat that, Santa Clause walked through the wall. Red suit, holly jolly, Saint Nick…

The hospital can be a very active place for someone who is sensitive to energy, or who can see and hear Spirits. But, never in my life did I expect to see that. Surprisingly, my first thought was not fear or disbelief, but I remember thinking, “Ok, things are about to get interesting!” As Santa walked closer to my bed, I did what any person would do. I said hi Santa. He walked over to my bedside and held my right hand. As he did this, he shared his trade secrets with me and my mind was officially blown. In that moment I remember thinking, this makes SO much sense. Before I tell you precisely what Santa said, it is important to understand that everything is an energy frequency. Even as humans we are made up of billions of particles that are made out of energy and therefore, we are energy. And, anything is possible if you tap into the right frequency of that energy.

Here is what Santa told me. He said, “If Spirit is energy and energy can be anywhere, then all of us have been looking at Santa the wrong way.” He is not a physical man that comes down our chimneys at night, and leave us physical gifts under the tree, but does something much more important. Santa is energy. Whether believing is seeing, or seeing is believing. Santa is Spirit energy, just like how the Universe is energy and we know there is something larger than ourselves in the Universe. Because Santa is this energetic frequency he can be anywhere and everywhere all at the same time.  Spirit frequency knows no time, and therefore time does not exist. So, that solved the question to how he travels around the world in one night and visits every child while they sleep. What he continued to tell me was that every Christmas Eve, he visits the hearts of every child and person who believes in the magic of Christmas. Even though, he doesn’t come in physical form, but energetically, he delivers the most powerful and profound gift to those believers. To a child or adult who has an open heart to the power of belief, he gives them the gift of “Christmas Spirit.” Christmas Spirit is something that will mean different things for different people. For some it is peace of earth, kindness to other people, the Charity of giving, and helping those in need, good tidings and cheer. For others, it may mean something else. But, the magic of Christmas, the kind of magic that can bring miracles is the Christmas Spirit. That frequency of peace, joy, blessings and gratitude for all that we already have in our lives. That kind of frequency that could bring peace on earth, if every person opened their heart to it more. To me, that is the most important gift of all; one that is surrounded in unconditional love from the Universe, from God. Miracles, Kindness, belief, peace and happiness to the Human Soul. So, as Santa stood there holding my hand, he asked me if my heart was open to receiving the Christmas Spirit. Of course I said yes! As he leaned down and kissed my forehead to give me the gift of the Christmas Spirit, I felt the cells in my body  as they reawakened to the magic that Santa Clause has just gifted me. As, the Spirit of Christmas was now inside of me, he said his goodbyes, gave me an old-fashioned Santa wink of his eye, touched my nose with his finger and said, “see you next year.” Then, he left the way he came and walked back through the wall, off to deliver the Christmas Spirit to another person.

The next day, the doctors let me go home. Some may not view it as a Christmas Miracle, but given my visitor the night before, I sure considered it as one. Since that day, I have seen Christmas differently. It is not about a gift under the tree. It is in fact about filling our hearts with the magic of the “Christmas Spirit” and all the other forms of spiritual gifts that come from tapping into its energy.

So, this Holiday Season, as life may have brought you in a direction that makes it hard to believe in Santa, or perhaps you and your family want to incorporate a new tradition, one that doesn’t cost anything, but will give you the best gift. I encourage you to try and open your hearts to the magic that can be had and experienced, by believing, and allowing the Spirit of Santa to give you the most important gift you can get at Christmas… The Christmas Spirit.

Winter Solstice: Yule Celebration of Lights

978d08b5-2f61-4463-bc16-1375a956f28aFor more than thousands of years the Winter Solstice, also known as Yule, has been a celebration of the rebirth of the Sun. Signifying light coming back to the Earth while beginning winter. The days start to stay lighter longer, and the new solar year begins. It is truly a magical time! On December 21st   2015, at 11:48pm EST the Northern Hemisphere will experience its winter solstice. The longest night if the year, it will bring balance to the Earth and then allow the light to shine. It is rich in traditions and lore. Did you know that most ancient stone circles are built around the sunrise of the winter solstice? The solstice is also symbolic of a time of hope and miracles because, even through the darkest times, we can rest assured that the light will come.  This is probably one of my favorite times of the year. Maybe it is because I am Capricorn, or maybe because I have witnessed and been a part of a real miracle that took place on the Winter Solstice in 2012 or perhaps because as humanity we draw our attention to things like charity, good will towards men and peace on Earth. Our spirits are lifted somehow and we draw together as a community and help others who are in need. We remember the things that are important and we cherish what we have in our lives. At the same time, whether we are conscious of it or not, we are reflective of the past year. We grieve the losses we experienced, and yet are hopeful for what is to come. Just like the sun comes back and rises, our own inner light resurrects inside of us with love, joy and faith. There are so many great traditions and celebrations that you can incorporate into your own space for this special evening. Here are a few of my favorites that you can do on your own or with friends, family or loved ones.

  • Growing up, our family called it a Buche de Noel, but it is also known as a Yule log, so for the Winter Solstice find a recipe that works for you and your family, and decorate it with whatever your heart desires, or traditional items such as powdered sugar as snow, and run a fork through the frosting to make it look like an actual tree log. Then enjoy it with your family or friends during the night of the Solstice.

  • Make a Yule wreath. Gather any items of your choice and bring the energy of Yule into your home for the entire holiday season. Set your intentions for the New Year while making the wreath, and pick decorations that may represent those wishes for you.  Then on the night of the Solstice hang your wreath, either on a door, or somewhere in your home.   Then, on New Year’s day, return your wreath to Nature , either by offering it to the woods, or if you have an outdoor fire pit, maybe you would like to have a fire ceremony and allow the Universe and Mother Earth to receive your intentions and set them in motion for you in the New Year. If you decide to make an offering in the woods, be sure to include the trees in your offering. Trees have very special energy and are a traditional part of the Winter Solstice.

  • Story telling by candle light, or fire. This tradition comes from many cultures, but one of the most popular for the Winter Solstice comes from Celtic traditions by sharing the story of the legend of the Holly King and the Oak King. You can also choose to share stories about the winter, or past events that you have experienced during previous Winter Solstice celebrations, or sing Yule songs. What is important is that you and the ones you love gather by the light and be together. When you do this, you raise your vibrations and connect with the energy of the Solstice. You can also incorporate sound in your evening. Ring bells at the exact moment of the Solstice. This symbolizes the cycles of nature and honors the four directions. It also symbolizes wish granting, so be sure to make your Winter Solstice Wish while ringing your bell.

  • Prayer is very powerful and, as I mentioned before, there is something about the Winter Solstice where it is like prayers are accelerated and miracles happen. Through the power of prayer I received my Winter Solstice gift from the Universe. So, a prayer circle or ceremony happens to be my favorite! You don’t need anything special for this, just a candle of your choice. You can do this privately, or in a group and make it your own. Sit by the light of the candle or fire and pray. If you are doing this in a group, sit around the flame in a circle and hold hands if you feel inclined to do so. Pray for anything you want, there are no limits on what you can pray for or how many prayers you say.  In fact, the bolder the prayer the bolder the Universe, God and the power of the Winter Solstice can respond to that prayer for you.  This year, an amazing healer and I will be having a Winter Solstice prayer circle at The Sacred Space in Concord NH. You can be a part of our prayer circle from anywhere in the world.  For the entire month of the December, leading up to the Winter Solstice, email me for free at contact@elysianld.com  with your prayers or wishes, and I will personally write them on a piece of paper and place them in the prayer offering bowl during our Winter Solstice prayer circle. Prayers are welcome from all over the world so no matter where you are you can be a part of the ceremony with us. If you happen to be celebrating the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, and you need some prayers for anything at all, email us and you will be included.  There is so much going on in the world, let’s join together from everywhere and pray for health, love, peace on earth and anything that rests in our hearts that we may be in need of this special season.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the Winter Solstice or Yule, I hope you take a moment to welcome the sun back and welcome the light back into your life in any way you need. Have a joyous yule season, and may you also experience the power of prayer and the magic of the season. “I do believe we’re all connected. I do believe in positive energy. I do believe in the power of prayer. I do believe in putting good out into the world. And I believe in taking care of each other.” – Harvey Fierstein
